Outreach Programming
What is it?
Jamestown 4-H Educational Center's goal for the Outreach Program is to target groups that may be unable to get the full extent of the Jamestown 4-H education curriculum in their visits; or in some cases, those groups that cannot attend at all. As the Outreach Program is entirely grant funded, all of the programs at the moment are free of charge. To schedule a program, or for more information, please contact our Outreach Coordinator.
Where did this program come from?
In 2009, the Altria group rededicated grant money to support personnel and programming. This money was used to fund the Jamestown 4-H Center Outreach Program; a branch of the programming department that is designed not only to bring the Jamestown 4-H Center’s programming to those who cannot attend, but to also augment the Environmental and Outdoor Education classes taught to participants on field trips to the site. These programs are designed and implemented by John Lewis, the Outreach Coordinator at the 4-H Center. All of the outreach programs involve hands-on activities and learning, following 4-H’s motto of “Learning by Doing.” The most requested program is “Reptile and Amphibians,” where live reptiles and amphibians are brought to the participants so they can look, touch, and smell the animals while learning information that is covered on the SOLs. The Outreach Program is extremely flexible, with programming topics ranging from the aforementioned Reptiles and Amphibians to Insects to Electricity and everything in between.
