Wetlands Walkway

In 2005 this 429-foot long, elevated, wooden wetlands walkway was completed in large part to dedicated donors and volunteers. In September 2008 the walkway was updated to include local flora and fauna and habitat signage. Quietly strolling guests may encounter rare visits with local inhabitants such as raccoons, crabs, eagles, osprey, deer, squirrels, owls and a wide assortment of native and migrating birds. For gardeners and arborists Bald Cypress, American Holly, Black Tupelo, American Sweet gum and Pignut Hickory are throughout the area. “Bob”, our bald cypress, is reportedly over 400 years old!

Pim Baker Pier

While here enjoy fishing on the 117’-long, Pim Baker Pier. River depth at the pier’s end at high tide is five feet. Fishing is available year-round. Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish, Spot, Rockfish, Flounder, and Bluegill can all be caught off the banks of the James River.

The Center provides all necessary firewood and fire-starting implements for your evening’s enjoyment. All you have to do is ignite and extinguish the fire! S’mores are also available to complete your fireside experience.

Recreation Field

In addition to our buildings, we have plenty of outdoor recreational space including our open athletic field, volleyball court, basketball court and great open areas with shade and sun to enjoy the view over the James River.
